A First Look Inside the New Garden City Recreation Complex

Garden City is investing in more than just a facility. It is creating a place where community, activity, and connection come together under one roof. The new Garden City is designed to serve residents of all ages, offering flexible spaces, modern amenities, and year-round opportunities to stay active. The project is on track for an early September opening date.

Finding the Complex

The complex boasting approximately 33,000 square feet is located at 200 Eagles Way, Garden City, GA 31408. However, as of the writing of this article, the address may not yet appear in GPS navigation systems.

To reach the facility, navigate to Albert Street, which runs beside Babe’s Smokehouse and the former Farmers Market site. Follow Albert Street toward the newly paved roadway and continue straight. The complex will be directly ahead.

A Flexible Gym Built for Everything

At the heart of the facility is a large, multi-use gym designed with flexibility in mind. The space can be configured to accommodate two basketball games simultaneously, six indoor pickleball courts, or three volleyball courts. This adaptability allows the complex to host practices, leagues, and tournaments without missing a beat.

“This Complex is an investment in the people of Garden City,” said Mayor Bruce Campbell. “It is about giving our families, our kids, and our residents a place to gather, stay active, and build community. We are proud to create something that will serve Garden City for generations to come.”

Ready to Host Tournaments

The facility is well-positioned to welcome competitive play, including AAU tournaments that can utilize a two-court gym setup. This creates opportunities not only for local athletes, but also for visitors coming into Garden City for organized sports events. Hosting tournaments also bring added value to the community, supporting area restaurants and hotels as teams and families travel to participate. For visiting teams and families, Garden City offers a convenient and affordable place to stay just minutes from the action. View available hotels and places to stay in Garden City.

“This facility gives us the ability to expand programming, host tournaments, and provide opportunities we simply have not had before,” said Cliff Ducey, Director of Parks and Recreation. “Whether it is youth sports, fitness, or community events, this Complex will be a hub of activity year-round.”

Spaces for Classes, Celebrations, and More

Two multipurpose rooms add even more versatility. The City is actively looking for instructors to offer classes such as dance, fitness, and martial arts. These rooms will also be available to rent for birthday parties, baby showers, wedding showers, and other community gatherings. Whether you are learning something new or celebrating a special occasion, these spaces are designed to bring people together.

A Standout Space for Events and Gatherings – Bruce Campbell Community Room

Just outside the main entrance, the complex features a beautiful event space overlooking the pool area. This community room, named after Mayor Bruce Campbell, is designed to host larger gatherings and offers a warm, inviting setting with vaulted ceilings, expansive windows, and high-quality flooring. The space includes its own prep kitchen and can accommodate approximately 135 guests, making it ideal for receptions, parties, and special events. With views of the outdoor pool and a thoughtfully designed interior, it provides a unique venue option right here in Garden City. The main entrance itself also creates a welcoming first impression, with a comfortable reception area and seating for guests as they arrive.

Comfort and Convenience Built In

The complex includes men’s and women’s locker rooms, each equipped with two showers, providing convenience for athletes and fitness users alike. A fully equipped fitness center will feature treadmills, free weights, and TVs, giving residents another option to stay active without leaving Garden City.

“From the beginning, our goal has been to create a facility that is accessible, affordable, and truly meets the needs of our residents,” said City Manager Rhonda Ferrell-Bowles. “Every detail has been thoughtfully considered to ensure this space delivers value and enhances quality of life here in Garden City.”

An Affordable Option for Residents

While the final fee structure is still being finalized, the City’s goal is clear. Access will remain very affordable for Garden City residents, ensuring the facility is accessible to the entire community.

A Pool Designed for All Ages

The pool area will offer something for everyone, including zero-entry access, a splash pad for younger visitors, and lap lanes for exercise and recreation. Accessibility has also been thoughtfully considered, with features such as an ADA-accessible step to ensure all residents can enjoy the space.

A Home for Garden City Athletics

Outside, a large artificial turf field and 6 outdoor pickleball courts add more opportunity for recreation. The field is designed to accommodate football, soccer, and lacrosse, and all Garden City recreation teams will call this facility home, creating a true hub for local athletics and community pride. A walking track wraps around the turf field, with sections designed to provide shade. This creates an ideal setup for parents and visitors to get in exercise while watching practices and games. A 2,900 square foot concession area with locker rooms sits between the pool area and athletic field.

More Than a Recreation Complex

This project reflects Garden City’s commitment to investing in its people. From youth sports to fitness classes to community events, the complex will serve as a gathering place where residents can stay active, connect with others, and enjoy all that Garden City has to offer.

 Convenience. Comfort. Connections.

That is exactly what this new space is built to deliver.
